IRS Direct Data Exchange (DDX)

The FAFSA began using the IRS Direct Data Exchange (DDX) beginning with the 2024-2025 FAFSA Form.

Rather than importing tax information into the FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT), contributors now must consent to transfer their tax information through the IRS Direct Data Exchange (DDX).

The student and all contributors must provide this consent and approval on the FAFSA in order to be eligible for federal student aid. Providing consent even applies to contributors who don't have a Social Security Number, didn't file taxes, or who filed taxes outside the US.

If the student is selected for Federal verification, the Financial Aid Office may request you and/or your contributor(s) submit a Tax Return Transcript(s) or a signed copy of your Federal Tax Return (1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ).  A Tax Return Transcript can be requested via www.irs.gov.
