Transitioning From Tradition: Moving a Face-to-Face Course Online

An Interview with Professor Peter Carfagna and Executive Assistant Ricky Volante

With the changing of landscape of education, online courses are now becoming the norm across university campuses. Recognizing that student interaction with their learning should extend beyond the traditional classroom, Professor Carfagna looked for options to continue student interaction with the course materials throughout each week. Partnering with the Center for eLearning, Professor Carfagna now has two fully online courses (offered as part of the Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Law Academy he co-directs) and one course that is blended, being a face-to-face course that utilizes a Blackboard course shell for weekly modules, supplemental information and recorded course lectures.

Come and listen to his insights on how he has successfully implemented Blackboard into his traditional law courses, the advantages to using a LMS such as Blackboard, the forms of technology he implements to record his lectures, the role his graduate assistants play in the implementation and his overall opinion of how transitioning his courses online has impacted student learning.
