File Upload Limit / Restriction

Beginning Fall 2025, the file upload limit in Blackboard will be reduced to 100 MB for all file types. Additionally, video file uploads will be prohibited in Blackboard Ultra. Below are recommendations for handling content types that may be affected by this change:

📹 Panopto: Course & Student Video Submissions

Panopto is CSU’s supported video hosting platform. All video content should be uploaded to Panopto. There are two primary options for student video submissions:

  1. Graded Video Assignments
Use the Panopto Video Assignment tool in either Blackboard Original or Blackboard Ultra.
    - Students can submit Panopto videos directly through Blackboard.
    - Videos submitted this way are private and not viewable by other students.
  2. Non-Graded or Shareable Video Content
Enable the Assignments folder in Panopto.
    - Students can upload videos that may be shared with the rest of the class.

⚠️ Note: Panopto is FERPA compliant, but not HIPAA-compliant. For HIPAA-sensitive content, please refer to the solution below.

📁 OneDrive: Large File Submissions

For other large file types (e.g., images, ZIP files, programming files, PowerPoint decks, Word documents, HIPAA-compliant videos, etc.), students should use OneDrive:

Upload the file to OneDrive and share a link in Blackboard.
- Blackboard supports native OneDrive integration in both Original and Ultra course views.

💾 Every CSU student, faculty, and staff member has 1 TB of OneDrive storage.
