Creating Instructor Presence in the Online Classroom

It is quite easy for students to feel disconnected while enrolled in an online course.  The greatest challenge to instructors is how to establish their “instructor presence” with their students in an online environment. Research has shown that an important component in students’ “performance in and satisfaction with their online course is the active participation of the instructor within their course (Picciano, 2002; Rovai, 2002; Swan & Shih, 2005).” Online instructors need to be intentional about creating a sense of presence in their courses. This webinar will walk you through some practices that can help increase your online presence, contributing to more active participation from students and an effective teaching and learning experience.
