Energy Saving Tips

Do your part to reduce your dorm’s energy consumption with these energy saving tips!

  • Turn lights off when leaving your room

  • Use LED bulbs in personal lighting

  • Use a power strip and switch it off when not in use

  • Unplug electronic devices (chargers, etc.) when not in use

  • Open shades or curtains to utilize natural light during the day instead of turning on lights

  • Turn down the thermostat when leaving your room on cold days and turn it up on hot days

  • Regularly take the stairs instead of the elevator

  • Report facility problems to ResLife Maintenance

  • Activate sleep setting on personal computers after 10-15 minutes of inactivity

  • Only wash full loads of laundry (or adjust the water setting accordingly)

  • Wash laundry in cold water

  • Use a drying rack or line instead of a dryer

  • Check the dryer every 40 minutes or before full dry-time elapses

  • Clean the lint trap in the dryer before each use

  • Dress for the weather and reach for a sweater before turning up the heat
