Which MFA option is recommended and why?
IS&T highly recommends installing the Microsoft Authenticator app for the most secure and best user experience. The Authenticator app does not require cellular service and mitigates MFA attacks such as SIM jacking.

Can I use an app other than the Microsoft Authenticator App?
Yes. However, only the Microsoft Authenticator App will be able to receive push notifications to approve an authentication request. Additionally, Cleveland State cannot support applications other than the official Microsoft Authenticator App.

What if i'm traveling and/or don't have cellular service?
The Microsoft Authenticator app does not require cellular service to authenticate. In this case, you can use the code generated in the app to authenticate. You can also call the Helpdesk at 216-687-5050 or chat at gethelp.csuohio.edu to receive a temporary access code.

Can CSU see my data after installing the Microsoft Authenticator app?
No, CSU will not have any access to your data.

Can I have more than one method of authentication for MFA?
Yes! We encourage you to set up your mobile number as your secondary in case you lose access to your default method.

Can I set my office phone number as a method for MFA?
