VPN-Remote Access

The standard method for secure remote access to the CSU network for faculty and approved staff is through a simple, easy to use VPN (virtual private network) client. A virtual private network (VPN) is a “tunnel” connection created to allow secure communication over public networks. Essentially, VPNs encrypt the traffic from your home or remote computer to the CSU network, allowing you to work remotely without worry of someone intercepting your communications. It uses extra authentication technology which will let you access data and applications not accessible to the general Internet population.

In order to use this service, you must perform a simple, one time installation of the VPN client program on the computer(s) that you will be using from a remote location. After that, whenever you need remote access, run the VPN program, enter your CSU ID and password and you will be connected to the campus network. Once connected you are able to use any of the products that you may use today such as pcAnywhere, Remote Desktop etc. to access any resource just as you would from on-campus.

With today's Internet security concerns and privacy regulations, it is important that we protect the University's research data, employee information, student records, and other digital assets while at the same time enabling safe and secure means for access from outside the university.

Authorization Forms

Full-time tenure track faculty are automatically provisioned. All other faculty and staff who require VPN access must complete the VPN Request form and obtain approval from their supervisor.
