You’re Going to Live a Lot Longer Than You Think
Michael Roizen, M.D.

Michael Roizen, M.D. is an anesthesiologist and internist, the Chief Wellness Officer, Emeritus, and founding Chair of the Wellness Institute at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Roizen became famous for developing the RealAge concept and has authored five number-one New York Times best sellers.

Dr. Roizen became Cleveland Clinic's chief wellness officer in 2007. He is a professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Roizen completed a tour of duty in the Public Health Service and has 165 peer reviewed publications and 100 medical chapters, 14 U.S. patents, started six companies, served on Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committees for 16 years and chaired an FDA advisory committee.  Among his other initiatives are starting a farmer's market on Cleveland Clinic main campus, mentoring children in the public schools as well as starting smoking cessation and weight-loss programs. He has also encouraged a walking-focused health program.

Over the next decade, people living to 100, 110, or even 120 years old will become increasingly common, and life past 100 may not look like what you expect. Preventing Addiction and Overdose

Are you concerned about an addiction with a friend or family member? 

Join us for an insightful presentation by representatives of the MetroHealth Office of Opioid Safety (OOS) on the impact of addiction. This session will address common forms of substance addiction, early warning signs, and effective resources for support and recovery. We'll discuss the importance of fostering a supportive environment and how organizations can assist employees and their families in overcoming these challenges.

The Office of Opioid Safety (OOS) offers education, tools and resources to MetroHealth providers and staff in all opioid related needs. OOS has a commitment to offering community-based education and training for community organizations, government agencies, educational systems, and corporations. The mission of OOS is to promote opioid safety throughout the MetroHealth system and in the greater community through education, advocacy and treatment.

Steps to Reach Individual Diet and Exercise Solutions (STRIDES) program

VikeHealth Grand Rounds is a series of events in which healthcare professionals and experts will share their medical knowledge with the Cleveland State University community. The events are open to all faculty, staff and students.

Our inaugural event will feature Eileen Seeholzer, M.D. the medical director of the Adult Weight Loss Surgery and Weight Management Center at MetroHealth System, professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and medical director of the MetroHealthy Employee Wellness Initiative at MetroHealth System. Dr. Seeholzer will speak about the STRIDES program, a practical adaptation of the Diabetes Prevention Program that uses simple language and tailors recommendations to patient preferences.

The STRIDES program is now available to all faculty and staff that have healthcare coverage through CSU. Attendees will:

  • Discuss the design of the STRIDES program.
  • Understand how STRIDES can prevent diabetes and other chronic health conditions.
  • Learn about a study that tested the effectiveness of STRIDES in an urban primary care practice in a county healthcare system.
  • Identify how to participate in the STRIDES program.
