TriC Foreign Language class

1. Students who graduated from high school in 1987 or later are required to complete one of the following:
   • Two years of a single foreign language in high school
   • An introductory level sequence of a single foreign language (generally, two semesters of 100-level study)
   • Two American Sign Language courses and one approved foreign culture course
2. Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) must complete one of the following in addition to the requirements detailed in 1 above:
   • An additional one year of a single foreign language in high school (i.e. 3 years total)
   • Two semesters of 100-level study in a language different than that completed in high school
   • Two semesters of 200-level intermediate study of language completed in high school
   • Two approved foreign culture courses (BMus students only)
3. CLASS students who graduated from high school before 1987 are required to complete one of the following:
   • An introductory level sequence of a single foreign language (generally, two semesters of 100-level study)
   • Two approved foreign culture courses

All students (especially those in CLASS) are strongly encouraged to discuss this requirement with an academic advisor.
