Welcome to the December edition of Graduate Student News! I hope you enjoy reading about the many activities and accomplishments of our graduate students from across the university. In this issue we highlight two groups of engineering students, a Master of Music in Piano Performance student, and two alumni from the Master’s program in Adult Learning and Development (ALD). You will read about two women engineering doctoral students who are busy conducting research in the Human Motion and Control Lab. This lab features state-of-the-art equipment for the measurement and study of human motion. The chemical engineering program proudly announces that a team of three undergraduate seniors won first place at the 2014 National AICHE Design Competition. Join us in congratulating this talented team of future engineers! You will also be introduced to a pianist in the Master of Music program, who has future ambitions for doctoral study. In addition to current CSU graduate students, read on to learn about two successful graduates of the ALD Master’s program. Faculty and students welcomed back two alumni who hold leadership positions at Oracle and eBay, and engaged them in a dialogue about their CSU graduate education and professional work roles.
The many accomplishments and memorable rewarding experiences of our outstanding graduate student population continue to fuel a growing interest in our graduate programs. As a CSU graduate student, you have a strong voice in promoting the many programs and student resources that Cleveland State University has to offer. We thank you for continuing to spread the word of your successes and those of your peers, and for encouraging other prospective students to join our campus community by choosing CSU as their academic home!
This semester we welcomed a new academically talented cohort of graduate students, and welcomed back many continuing students to our growing urban campus community. For some of you, this semester represents the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice as you earn your graduate degree and walk across the stage at the December Commencement ceremony. It is a moment of pride that I know every one of you is eagerly working towards. The achievements and accomplishments that hard work and determination have earned you at CSU will follow you into your future careers, and into the many known and unknown possibilities that await you. The administration and staff of the College of Graduate Studies wishes you our sincere congratulations and many years of success! In closing, I encourage you to take some time over Winter break to reflect on, and solidify, your goals for next semester. Consider what student resources might help you to meet those goals with success, and visit the website of our new Graduate Student Resource Center to learn more about the many services that the university has to offer to help facilitate your academic progress. If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate in the many professional development programs and opportunities, I strongly encourage you to explore new offerings, coming in Spring 2015.
