Transcript Policy

In accordance with the Federal Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 and subsequent amendments, your records cannot be released without your written consent. All outstanding obligations (financial, academic or administrative) due to the University must be cleared before your transcript request can be processed.

Official Cleveland State University transcripts can be securely delivered electronically by Parchment or delivered on paper via mail or Federal Express.  Electronic transcripts are certified documents providing PDF documents assurances of authenticity and integrity.  Official Cleveland State University paper transcripts are produced on green security paper. If the paper transcript is asked to be "Sealed" there will be a stamp on the back seal of the envelope containing the University Registrar's signature. If the transcript contains coursework prior to 1982, the official transcript will be on white paper and will have the University Registrar's signature on the bottom right and will contain an embossed seal directly above the signature.

Types of transcripts available

All transcripts issued by Cleveland State are official documents and contain your complete academic record, including courses, grades, GPA, degrees received, and honors.

Students may request a "Sealed" transcript if they are delivering the transcript to a third party and wish the transcript remain an official document. Transcripts being sent directly to another institution do not need to be "Sealed."

All transcripts given to the student are stamped "Issued to Student" in red to prevent unauthorized alteration or duplication.

Available when ordering online, an electronic transcript is a certified PDF of the official transcript.  The e-transcript will be transmitted electronically to the recipient, and is intended solely for use by that recipient.  The e-transcript is no longer considered official if it is subsequently provided to someone other than the original recipient. An e-transcript is considered official in PDF format only.  Printed e-transcripts will display a watermark notating that they are a Copy of Official Transcript.

Standard Processing Times

Transcript orders can expect a processing time of 2-3 business days from the day you place your order.  Please note that orders placed online will be processed faster than those received via mail.  All processing times are an estimate of the time needed to complete your order, they are NOT a guarantee.
