USRA Hiring Information
Student employment is administered through the Office of Career Development & Exploration. Helpful manuals for students and faculty are available.
The hiring process should begin as soon as possible to avoid delays and ensure that students can start work at the beginning of the summer.
In order to hire students to participate in your research, you must do the following:
- Hiring departments should allow 7 - 10 days to complete the hiring process.
- Students cannot start their position until you receive a confirmation email from student employment with the start date.
- Please ensure the supervisor includes their unique 4-digit PeopleSoft Position Number with the Student Hire Packet.
- Please ensure that the Student Hire Packet includes the correct Combo Code.
- Create a job description using the “Job Posting Form” template. This is required even if you have already selected your undergraduate research students. Job Posting Forms must be sent to studentemploy@csuohio.edu.
- If you already have a student selected, the job posting will only need to go to the person in your department responsible for processing the hiring paperwork, it does not need to be posted on the student employment site.
- Coordinate with your department's admin to complete the required paperwork for hiring. See the Student Hire Packet.
- Student Hire Packet must be sent to studentemploy@csuohio.edu.
- The I9 process for students is completed through drop-ins at BH-116 between 9am-3pm, Monday through Friday. Students do not need to create an appointment through Handshake to complete the I9 process.
Eligibility requirements for summer student employment include the following:
- Students who completed 6 credit hours in the Spring and are registered for 6 in the Fall are eligible for summer employment. They can work up to 40 hours per week even if they are not enrolled in summer classes.
- If a student does not meet the credit requirements in the Spring (or is a brand-new student starting in the summer), they must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the summer to be eligible to work.
