The Center for Faculty Excellence

Individualized Services

The overall purpose of the CFE is to help faculty at CSU improve their teaching. While this often gets interpreted in a technological fashion (i.e. helping faculty use technology in instruction) it also encompasses more traditional areas.

CFE staff will consult with faculty on a variety of teaching topics, including:

  • Pedagogical approaches and strategies
  • Using interactive teaching approaches
  • Student/teacher interactions and classroom dynamics
  • Planning student projects
  • Improving testing and grading practices
  • Dealing with web-based plagiarism problems

We can also assist you with course design and planning.  If you are rethinking existing courses or developing totally new courses, we can assist you with:

  • Course structure
  • Syllabus design
  • Developing new teaching and learning strategies
  • Designing new support materials
  • Incorporating educational technologies
  • Rethinking materials to involve students with different learning styles

If you are interested in incorporating more technology into your instruction, some of the skills with which we can help you are:

  • Making effective use of PowerPoint presentations
  • Using electronic communication tools with students
  • Incorporating effective assignments for student Web use
  • Creating and using effective class Web pages
  • Incorporating online testing and survey procedures

Finally, if you need assistance with preparing for distance education – either Web-based or via interactive video (IVDL) – we can provide that as well. The CFE staff has firsthand experience with both and can assist you in designing and implementing your own distance education procedures in an efficient and effective fashion.

If you would like to schedule an individual or small group appointment to discuss these or any other areas of instruction, please contact Dr. Joanne Goodell: j.goodell@csuohio.edu, or 216-687-5509.
