CISP Education Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance for Education Abroad to Cleveland State University students who are economically disadvantaged and have demonstrated academic and personal achievements.The award will range from $200-$500.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to qualify for the CISP Education Abroad Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria at the time of application. Students who do not meet all of the eligibility requirements will be disqualified.

• Enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours and seeking a degree at Cleveland State University.
• Successful completion of one academic year of study at CSU. For transfer and graduate students, successful completion of one semester of study at CSU.
• Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA for undergraduates; 3.2 cumulative GPA for graduate students.
• Demonstrated financial need with current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file in the Office of Financial Aid.
• No prior award from the CSU Education Abroad Scholarship. This is a one-time award.
• Must be registered for Education Abroad courses for the term of the Education Abroad program.

Deadlines
Students that do not submit a complete application with all required application documents by 5:00 pm on the established deadline will be disqualified.

• Spring Semester 2013: December 7th, 2012
• Summer Sessions 2013: March 29, 2013
• Fall Semester 2013: May 31, 2013

Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs

Established to provide assistance for economically disadvantaged students to participate in Education Abroad programs. The maximum award is $500.

Eligibility Requirements

• Currently enrolled, full-time, degree seeking student at Cleveland State University.
• Successful completion of one year of study at CSU.
• Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
• Complete application packet : application form; two letters of recommendation; program acceptance letter (If not CSU faculty-led program); and essay.

Deadlines

• Winter Break and Spring Semester Program: October 15
• Summer Semester Program: March 15
• Fall Semester Program: June 15

Selection Process
The committee will base its decision on the following criteria:  academic performance; an approved Education Abroad program with relevant coursework; involvement in CSU and the greater Cleveland community; and essay.

John A. Chao Memorial

This Scholarship provides financial support to CSU students/scholars studying or doing research in China or Taiwan as well as to Chinese students from China or Taiwan studying at CSU. The Scholarship honors Professor John A. Chao for his excellent services to the University community and for international recognition of his scholarly work, and especially for his instrumental dedication in establishing collaborative relations between CSU and various Chinese Universities. The endowed fund will provide financial support to CSU students studying in China or Taiwan, provide financial support to Chinese students from China or Taiwan studying at Cleveland State University, promote faculty and staff involvement in international professional activities such as teaching, research, and attending conferences in China and Taiwan, and bring Chinese scholars from China and Taiwan to Cleveland State University for professional activities such as lecturers, research, or advanced study.

Eligibility Requirements

• All students need to have completed one semester of full-time study at CSU with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for Undergraduates and a 3.25 for Graduate students and Law Students. Students must attach a copy of CSU transcript.
• Faculty and staff must write a detailed letter as to how the funds advance the academic mission of CSU and its relationship to the China/Taiwan. A letter from the department chair or supervisor supporting the request and what the faculty/staff would do to enhance the collaboration between CSU and their Chinese/Taiwanese counterparts.

Ohio International Consortium `

The Ohio International Consortium provides a scholarship of $1500 to student applicants from member institutions of the OIC, like Cleveland State University.

Eligibility Requirements

• Be an Ohio resident who is a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate from an Ohio International Consortium member school.
• Be at least a rising sophomore with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The selected student must return to the home campus for at least one semester during which the follow-on project will be completed.
• Be accepted into an accredited study abroad program that has been approved by the home school. Programs must be at least one semester in duration.

Preference is given to first-time study abroad applicants studying in a non-English-speaking country and taking courses in the native language of the host country.

Deadlines:

• Spring Semester: October 15
• Fall Semester: February 15

Ohio Foreign Language Association

This scholarship is intended to provide some assistance to students planning to become foreign language teachers. OFLA believes in the value of immersion experiences for all students and especially those planning to become professionals in the field. NOTE: Scholarships are NOT awarded for tours or vacations abroad, only for immersion experiences, home stays, Education Abroad, language camp, exchange programs, etc.

Gilman International Scholarship Program

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program is administered by the Institute of International Education and funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be U.S. citizens, receive Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and not study in a country that is under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning or in Cuba. The applicant should be an undergraduate student at a two or four year institution and enroll in a country-based Education Abroad program. Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program will award up to $5000 to students approved.

Boren Undergraduate Scholarships

The National Security Education Program offers scholarships to students interested in international academic areas as well as language study. This program supports study of languages and cultures that may not have been emphasized in the past but are deemed crucial to national security. US citizens that are enrolled in an academic institution at the time of application and are planning on finishing their study before they graduate are eligible.

Golden Key International Honor Society Scholarships and Awards

Members of Golden Key may apply for scholarships and awards on undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate levels that vary from $500 per scholarship up to $10,000.

The National Italian American Foundation

The National Italian American Foundation offers scholarships that range from $2,500 to $5,000 to US citizens or permanent residents. Students must have a GPA of 3.25, be enrolled in an accredited university, and come from an Italian American background to be eligible for the NIAF scholarship.

Bridging Scholarship

The US Japan Bridging Foundation awards up to 65 scholarships for students that will Education Abroad in Japan. These awards will help students with their travel and living expenses. U.S. citizens or permanent residents following an undergraduate study in any area are eligible for this scholarship. They must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the U.S.

Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship Program

Students who receive fellowships will participate in a multi-year sequence of summer policy institutes, Education Abroad, intensive language training, internships, and graduate study, in addition to career development services along the way. Applicants must be sophomore standing, enrolled full time in a four year institution, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have a minimum 3.2 GPA, strong interest in international affairs and be an underrepresented minority. The IIPP fellowship provides funding for up to one-half of the total cost of Education Abroad.

British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association

This scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a place as a Education Abroad or exchange student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX (British Transatlantic Exchange Association) for the academic year. The value of each scholarship is US $1000 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

German Academic Exchange Service

German Academic Exchange Service offers grants to both faculty and students. Grants are awarded for a variety of programs. In order to receive these grants the applicants must be US or Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Special cases such as international students enrolled or employed at a North American institution, may also be eligible.

Diversity Abroad

Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with AIFS, will offer twenty, $1,000 scholarships. Scholarships are only available for students studying or interning abroad on programs offered by a Diversity Abroad member organization. Economically disadvantaged students, African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino and Native-American students are strongly encouraged to apply.
