Graduate Assistant - Information Systems Department:

The Information Systems Department, housed within the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State is seeking a Graduate Assistant. The Graduate Assistant will be assigned to work with three professors in the Information Systems Department. The position requires that the GA be able to research articles and journals on a wide variety of topics, grade papers, prepare materials and assist as needed for the courses. Graduate Assistants cannot be enrolled in the courses with the instructors that they are assigned to assist. 

Other duties will be to assist the department in developing systems to better serve students and faculty. Potential examples include: working with incoming students, answering questions, providing advice in regards to department information, developing plans to help build and support the department in recruiting students and student retention. Career Peer - Career Services:

Apply through Hire-A-Vike today to be a Career Peer in the Career Services Office. The Career Peer’s role is to serve as an ambassador between the Career Services office and the Cleveland State University student body. 

Career Peers are also enthusiastic advocates and brand managers for Career Services. Under staff supervision, Career Peers will provide excellent customer service to their fellow students, and all Career Services’ constituents, including: providing pre-screenings of resumes and cover letters, helping fellow students and employers navigate Career Services resources, answer questions about upcoming programs and general questions related to the university, and assisting professional staff with workshops and career related events. 

Note: This position is part of the On-Campus Internship Program.  Students picked for this position must register for CSC 291 (1 credit hour) or CSC 290 (0 credit hours) as part of their employment as an intern. 

Must be available August 20th through 24th, 2018 from 9:00 AM through 4:00 PM for mandatory, paid training (no exceptions).

Position Accountabilities:                                 
  • Assist fellow students with initial resume and cover letter reviews; answer initial questions about job searches, FWS, Hire A Vike, and LinkedIn

  • Provide excellent and timely customer service in-person, by phone, and by e-mail utilizing strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Assist professional staff with workshops and presentations

  • Offer technical support for students navigating internal job board, Hire A Vike, and the Career Services website

  • Answer phone calls and email inquiries, including accurately and promptly scheduling counseling appointments

  • Maintain ability to “go with the flow”, and perform in a fast paced environment where multi-tasking is sometimes necessary

  • Assist with student mock interview preparation

  • Assist with data entry involving sensitive information

  • Assist with events hosted by Career Service

  • Maintain familiarity with the Student Employment handbook

  • Assist with office projects as assigned

 Qualifications:                                    
  • 3.0 GPA (3.5 GPA or higher preferred)

  • Second year or higher 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 or later (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in internet browsers for online scheduling

  • Customer service experience

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

Learning Objectives:

Career Peers will learn how to work and excel in a professional, fast-paced environment. Students will learn how to enhance their personal, professional, and presentation skills through direct contact with all of Career Services’ constituencies. Career Peers will learn proper administrative skills and how to use office technology. They will explore career opportunities from an insider’s perspective, and have the chance to be mentored by a CSU professional staff.

Days/Times Needed: 

Flexible. Preference given to students who can work shifts of at least 3 hours at a time. Office hours are Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM with occasional requests for evening or weekend hours. Up to 20 hours per week. Must be available for weekly team meetings, which happen during Tuesday or Thursday common hour.

SALARY: $8.30 to $10.00 per hour, based on experience
