Viking Alumni Recruiter Spotlight: Samantha Hunt

When I saw there were opportunities to get involved with VAR I jumped at the opportunity. As a professional in the field of higher education, I understand the important role alumni can play in a university setting, but I always thought donations were the only way to get involved. As a young professional, donating is not always an option. VAR was a way for me to give back to CSU in a way that was feasible and meaningful for me.
 
So far, I have volunteered at Fall Visit Day and I helped staff the table at a college fair. Both were great opportunities to talk to people and share my story. It was fun to see potential Vikings get excited about all of the things CSU offers and wanting to learn more. 
 
Sometimes volunteering can be boring, tedious or you can feel as though your help isn't being appreciated, but VAR was completely different. They didn't just invite me there just to smile and wave, they genuinely wanted my help and treated me like I was a part of the team. I have loved my experience thus far and cannot wait to find more ways to engage with the University through VAR.
 
There are so many people behind the scenes helping to make a student's experience at CSU a great one. As a student, I never knew about or appreciated these people, so I am honored to repay them for their contributions to my future by volunteering to help the institution in any way that I can. If you are looking for a way to get involved liked I was, I strongly encourage volunteering at a college fair. Not only are they fun, but I feel like it is awesome to know that your story is what may help a high school student find their home at CSU!
