The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at Cleveland State University is responsible for facilitating University compliance with applicable federal, state and local legislation pertaining to environmental health and occupational safety on campus. EHS is also responsible for emergency preparedness, fire safety and prevention and safety, and insurance services for the University. EHS is organizationally part of the Division of Campus Safety, along with the Departments of
Access Control and Security Systems and
Public Safety (Campus Police). EHS collaborates with Facilities Operations and the University Architect’s Office to ensure maintenance, renovation and construction projects and activities are performed in a safe and compliant manner. EHS also works in close cooperation with all safety and security personnel and the University Administration to develop policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy workplace while encouraging proactive stewardship on behalf of our environment.
New Employee Safety Orientation
The Department of Environmental Health and Safety provides New Employee Safety Orientation sessions for new hires in conjunction with the Department of Human Resources and Labor Relations. The sessions are mandatory for all new employees, including student employees, and are designed to familiarize employees with established safety and health programs and emergency procedures. All University employees hired after January 1, 2006, are required to attend one of these sessions.
