Sullivan-Deckard Workshop Aims to Beat 'Summer Slide'

The Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement is embarking on its second year of the Sullivan-Deckard Scholars program, which helps students transition out of foster care to campus life. 

The first cohort was exceptionally successful in its academic endeavors. The cohort of 10 achieved much higher than the 2.5 GPA minimum required to participate in the program. One student's GPA even reached a 3.9.

To keep the scholarly momentum going, the Office will hold a four-week summer workshop for Sullivan-Deckard Scholars designed to be an engaged learning experience for second-year Scholars.

Workshop sessions will be taught by CSU faculty, staff, and other professionals from the community who have demonstrated subject matter expertise. Student Navigators from the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement will serve as peer assistants and coaches. They will be available to assist Scholars with time-management strategies, organizing work, completing class assignments and will also participate with scholars in co-curricular activities.
