Navigators Attend State of the State

Four Student Navigators from CSU's Office of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement attended the State of the State Conference on March 17 at Kent State University.

The theme of the conference Understanding our Past, Embracing our Future: The Intersections of Identity and Change explored equity, diversity and opportunity in higher education. Keynote speakers included award-winning journalist John Quinones and Sonia Mazano, who played "Maria" on Sesame Street. 

"The beauty of their experience attending this State of the State conference has to do with the opportunity to meet policy makers and change agents," said Assistant Vice President of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement Charleyse S. Pratt, Ph.D. "And, they were participating with students from other institutions who share their interests."

She added, "Our students aspire to be great leaders and these types of engaged learning opportunities help them to learn and grow."

According to the conference website, its mission is "To provide Ohio’s residents with an annual high quality, affordable conference in which they are able to share and learn how Ohioans from public, private, non-profit, educational and corporate sectors are seeking to make their organizations and communities more inclusive and representative. By examining how our state is preparing for the dramatic demographic changes predicted for the decades ahead; It is our hope and belief that our conference will contribute positively to preparing Ohio’s institutions to effectively meet the challenges and opportunities presented by these changes."
