Navigator Meets with State Lawmakers

Andrew_Ortner.jpgAfter he graduates, Student Navigator Andrew wants to go to law school and perhaps after that he'll pursue a career in politics.

That's why a visit with Ohio lawmakers at the Inter-University Council Day at the Ohio Statehouse in April piqued his interest.

"I learned more about the process on how our Statehouse works. I also learned about the people representing the state of Ohio and their initiatives and goals for students and the state," the CSU junior said.

The event gave Andrew the opportunity to mingle with other student leaders from universities throughout the state. Some of the legislators in attendance included Rep. Dan Ramos, Rep. Marty Sweeney, Sen. Sandra Williams and Sen. Tom Patton. They spoke of the new Cleveland State University Film School, announced earlier this month, as well as topics including financial aid, textbook prices and other issues important to college students.

"I learned about the capital budget and operating budget, what Senators and Representatives do, and the impact that President Berkman has on our university," he said. "I enjoyed the experience and would recommend any students to take the opportunity if given the chance.  I believe the trip was one of a kind and I hope to have made a lasting impression on everyone I met."
