The Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement at Cleveland State University held its inaugural Meeting the Challenge of Inclusive Excellence Conference September 18-20, 2016.
Leaders in institutional diversity and inclusion presented to CSU faculty, staff and students as well as attendees from non-profits, in higher education and private institutions. Sessions included "Creating Frameworks for Leading Diversity and Inclusive Initiatives," "Recruiting, Retaining and Mentoring Faculty of Color," among other topics.
“Inclusive excellence refers to the creation of an organizational environment that not only recognizes, appreciates, and values the talents, abilities, experiences, and perspectives of every member of the community, but also uses those characteristics to achieve organizational objectives while producing a robust, creative culture,” said Charleyse Pratt, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President for Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement at CSU. “This unique conference offered Northeast Ohio an opportunity to share best practices in the advancement of diversity and inclusion. We were proud to bring this successful gathering to CSU."
Dr. Pratt was recognized during the conference by CSU President Ronald Berkman for her many contributions to Cleveland State in fostering inclusion throughout campus.
