Renowned American Musicians Bringing Decades of Experience to CSU's School of Music

The Cavani String Quartet is excited to provide CSU students studying chamber music with a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity

CLEVELAND, Ohio (August 21, 2023) — Cleveland State University’s School of Music (CSU SOM) is proud to welcome the Cavani String Quartet as artists-in-residence for the 2023-24 academic year.

Described by The Washington Post as “completely engrossing, powerful and elegant,” the group’s artistic excellence, generous spirit and fervent ambassadorship for great music has placed it among America’s most notable string quartets. During the 2023-24 academic year, members of the Cavani String Quartet will develop and lead CSU SOM student ensembles devoted to the serious study of chamber music and more.

“This collaboration will no doubt be a once-in-a lifetime experience for our student musicians,” said Dr. Heather A. Russell, director of the CSU SOM. “Our School of Music strives to innovate and influence through our unique professional and artistic partnerships, and having the Cavani String Quartet engaged with our campus is a prime example of how we’re doing just that.”

"My Cavani colleagues and I are thrilled to be working with the Cleveland State community of students and faculty, sharing the joy and discipline of chamber music artistry," said Annie Fullard, founding member of the Cavani String Quartet and nationally recognized chamber music coach.

Passionate leaders in the field of arts advocacy and education, the Cavani String Quartet views the empathy and connectivity of chamber music as a model of the kind of communication that bridges communities, which fully supports CSU’s mission as a civic anchor for the city of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio as a whole.

The CSU SOM is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and offers four undergraduate programs; three graduate program tracks in composition, music education and performance; a post-baccalaureate program in music education and a performance certificate.
