City employees graduate from management academy and propose ways to improve government and services

Presentations by 30 City administrators from across all divisions on ways to cut costs, break down department silos, and start new programs and services to benefit residents

Supported by the Cleveland Foundation, the Academy is collaboration between the City and CSU's Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, now completing its second year. City employees enrolled in a one-year concentrated program in Public Management Development to build and enhance their management skills. The program is custom designed by the Center for Leadership in the Levin College and meets the needs addressed in Mayor Jackson's "Operations Efficiency Task Force."
The program professionalizes and empowers the City workforce to meet the public management challenges of the 21st century. All customized workshops (25) focus on workplace efficiency, improved communications, customer service, change management, and innovative planning strategies. Participation qualifies for academic credit.
Wellness While You Work: a new collaboration between CSU and the City to reduce health care costs, including having CSU students provide exercise and nutrition classes for city employees
Cleveland Residential Composting – Kickstart: a successful pilot program in a local neighborhood to establish composting as a sustainable alternative for waste management
Youth Activities Resources and Development: a new collaboration with CMSD and the city's Workforce Development department to expand recreation, workforce development and educational programming for the city's youth
Mentoring Program: as part of the city's "Knowledge Transfer" effort, it may be the only municipal program of its kind the country
The Division of Resource Acquisition: a new targeted city effort to identify diverse funding streams to support the city's strategic initiatives
