CSU Art Gallery Presents 60x60, an Exhibition of 60 Small Contemporary Prints from Purdue University, Jan. 22-March 6

Art Gallery Hours: M-F 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat. 12-4 p.m.

The Cleveland State University Art Gallery will present 60x60, an exhibition of 60 small contemporary prints by 60 contemporary artists in a variety of print media from Purdue University Galleries. The exhibit opens Friday, January 22 and runs through Saturday, March 6.

60 x60 was developed by the Purdue University Galleries in West Lafayette, Indiana, and was acquired from their biennial small print exhibition ‘Sixty Square Inches.’

An opening reception will take place on January 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the Art Gallery; a Gallery Talk with Russ Revock, Assistant Professor of Art in Printmaking at CSU and a featured artist in the show, will take place at 4 p.m. The exhibit, reception and Gallery Talk are free and open to the public.

Continuing a tradition begun in 1977, the exhibit presents a current review of North American printmakers who are working within the limited format of 60 square inches in image area. Techniques in the show include lithograph, wood engraving, etching, intaglio, monoprint, mezzotint, and digital image, among others. The exhibit sustains an intimacy that allows the viewer to stand in close proximity and experience an artist’s vision at the same scale the artist enjoyed when he or she created it.

The Purdue Galleries are committed to acquiring new works from each ‘Sixty Square Inches’ competition and building its collection of contemporary North American printmaking while helping to support the community of modern artists.

60x60 is presented with the support of the Ohio Arts Council. The Art Gallery is located at 2307 Chester Avenue. Hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
