About the Festival and Jazz Heritage Orchestra

CSU's Black Studies Program is selected as one of four national sites for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Program based in New York City. The Regional High School Jazz and Band Festival is a unique opportunity for high school jazz bands to perform, with the top bands selected to compete at the national level.

The Jazz Heritage Orchestra is considered to be the top big band jazz orchestra in the country and is in residence in the CSU Black Studies Program. Its members are rated among the nation's finest jazz educators and musicians. Under the direction of Dennis Reynolds, Jazz Heritage Orchestra has performed with such national jazz greats as Clark Terry, Benny Golson, Nancy Wilson, and Vanessa Rubin.

The Jazz Heritage Orchestra will conduct special master classes for young jazz musicians from Camden, New Jersey High Schools, Youngstown, Ohio Public Schools, East Cleveland School District, Cleveland School of the Arts, Cleveland Metropolitan School District Jazz Workshop and Cleveland Music Settlement. Students will receive individual and group lessons from Jazz Heritage Orchestra members and will observe a Jazz Heritage Orchestra rehearsal accompanied by an interactive question and answer session.
