Educational Objectives
Cleveland State University's Health Disparities Professional Certificates provide knowledge of the causes and issues of health disparities and strategies for eliminating disparities while improving learners’ social competence and leadership skills. The certificates are for individuals working towards or currently in health services, social services, policy, education, and other professions advocating for the health and well-being of our communities.
Upon successful completion of this certificate program, students will:
- Become knowledgeable of the current research on health disparities and health inequalities
- Become knowledgeable on the underlying cause of health inequalities
- Be able to identify, describe, and be knowledgeable regarding possible solutions to address and reduce health inequalities in different populations.
The program offers two certificates: Patient-Centered Care and Social Determinants of Health. Certificate content is delivered in a blended format. Learners study one module each week at their own pace, followed by a weekly facilitator-led 90-minute group discussion via Zoom classroom.
To receive a certificate of completion, digital badge, and full CEUs, learners must complete all modules and attend 100% of the discussion sessions. If you must miss a discussion session, learners can complete a learning portfolio to receive the certificate of completion. Learners missing a discussion must notify the facilitator in advance and contact the Division of Continuing and Extended Education to request the learning portfolio option. The learning portfolio option is only available for two missed sessions. Learners who miss more than two sessions will not qualify for a certificate of completion or digital badge. A certificate of attendance will be awarded instead with equivalent CEUs earned.
Content is delivered in weekly module format via the Blackboard learning management system. |
Zoom sessions meet from 6:00-7:30 PM weekly during the certificate. |
