New Course Offering Spring 2014 Special Topics/Elective


EDF 525: New Literacies and Technologies
This is a web-based (online) course

This 3-credit, graduate-level special topics elective course (open to any CSU graduate student) examines the expanding definition of literacy as it applies to new technologies, and new popular forms of reading and writing among children and teens.

  • Investigate how students acquire technology skills and literacies
  • Experience video game culture, social media, fan fiction, texting, online communities, and more
  • Examine how children are choosing to learn and participate in new forms of literacy outside of school with new technologies and new media
  • Explore ways this knowledge can shape the way we design academic learning
