It has been a very busy yet rewarding semester for the Department of Marketing.
Student Kevin Metz, advised by Doctoral student and instructor Michael Wachter, placed second in the Cleveland State University/Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC) ideaLabs business concept competition. CSU placed second after Hiram College, and was followed by Case Western Reserve University. Congratulations Kevin!
Throughout the semester, the Department hosted two extremely successful student and community engagement programs. In February, a discussion on Marketing Research with panelists from Caterpillar, Smuckers, Nestle and Lubrizol was hosted by the Center for Marketing Research. In March, a highly insightful panel discussion on Entertainment and Event Marketing coordinated by Professor James D'Orazio featured Chef Zack Bruell and marketing executives from the Indians and the "Q".
Students in the CSU chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) received an Honorable Mention for participating in the annual International Collegiate Case Competition held by the Collegiate Chapters Council of the AMA. An Honorable Mention means that our CSU team was selected as one of the top 20 entries out of 61 total entries. This was the first time in many years that CSU entered the competition. The AMA students then had a very successful trip to the National Collegiate American Marketing Association Conference in New Orleans. Charlotte Oliver, Sarra Mejri, Chad Gourley and Melissa Michalewicz worked for months leading up to the conference to prepare their entry into the booth exhibit competition. The CSU team won 2nd place in Best Use of Conference Theme in the competition. There were 40 schools competing and many had teams that were much larger than CSU's. The chapter also prepares an annual report summarizing its goals and accomplishments for the year. The CSU team received awards for both Chapter Communications and Professional Development as outlined in the annual report. Great job by our students and excellent guidance by Department of Marketing Lecturer Kim Ruggeri and Michael Wachter!
