EVENTS
In 2005-2006, the Black
Studies Program continued its celebration of "the
rich legacy of the African Diaspora" through
a number of lectures, discussion groups, and events.
Black History Celebration
January-May
Black Studies celebrates the struggles and accomlishments of African-American heroes and examines their social significance in contemporary culture. Information for this year's activities will be available in the fall on our Current Events and calendars (navigate to right margin for Calendars for 2008 Schedule).
Black Aspirations
April
Scholars and students identify, analyze, and reflect upon responsible
actions for growth and development of the African American
community while celebrating the unique blend of cultural arts
and entertainment. Events include lectures, speakers, workshops, seminiars,
performers, film series and a community dinner.

TOMBOUCTOU Book Club
October-May
In 2003, a great tradition was started
where students, teachers, and members of the Greater Cleveland community
gathered in the African-American Cultural Center to discuss some of
the classics of African-American literature. The Black Studies
program is proud to announce that the Tombouctou Book Club will continue

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Minor
offered in Black Studies; Major being established
This interdisciplinary academic program consists of approximately 89 Black Studies courses offered by 20 different departments which are housed in four different colleges of the University.
Students can earn an interdisciplinary minor in Black Studies. A major in Black Studies is being established.
