As TEDxClevelandStateUniversity approaches, we'll profile each speaker who will take the stage at the event.

Meet Jessica L. Gallagher-Steuver.

Gallagher-Steuver is a visiting assistant professor of music education at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory in Berea, Ohio, and artistic director of Windsong, Cleveland's feminist chorus. She also taught at Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University. In 2025, she founded the “Journal of Queer Choral Studies”, the official academic publication of GALA Choruses. Her research focuses on queer studies in music education, community music-making, social-emotional benefits of choral participation and vocal health in older adults. 

She earned a Ph.D. in music education from Case Western Reserve University in 2025 after seven years teaching music in Cincinnati-area schools. Her research has been published in leading music education journals and presented at national and international conferences.

The topic of her talk and performance is The Power of Group Singing to Build Community.
