Prospective Grad Student Social Offers the Chance to Make Connections
Sometimes, all it takes is a conversation to get things started.
The annual Prospective Graduate Student Social offers plenty of opportunities to connect and start those conversations.
The event takes place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Student Center Atrium. It offers an opportunity to network with faculty, graduate program coordinators, students and alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences, Monte Ahuja College of Business, Levin College of Public Affairs and Education, Washkewicz College of Engineering, College of Health, College of Law, and the Graduate Student Resource Center.
“This event is perfect for students who are considering graduate school, or even for students who might consider graduate school,” said Kaitlyn Carmel, coordinator of graduate recruitment. “This is a chance to explore programs from across CSU in a very low-pressure environment — it’s a social with food, drinks and music, and everyone is there to connect and talk about why they do what they do and why you might enjoy joining their program.”
Students can expect to gain clarity about what they want to study and which academic path best fits their goals. Those who already know their direction can use the event to connect with the faculty, mentors and peers who will help shape their graduate experience.
“We want prospective students to feel comfortable walking up to a table and introducing themselves, so we will have our team circling throughout to help make connections,” said Carmel.”
Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served, and free parking will be available in the Central Garage for attendees. Carmel said the goal is for students to leave the event feeling more informed about graduate studies at CSU — and more connected to the campus community.
“The Office of Graduate Studies is here to help put you in touch with the right people to answer your questions as you explore all future planning possibilities,” she said.
