SOD Julianna Cutcher

Although Commencement has passed, CSU continues to celebrate graduating students who have overcome obstacles, made significant achievements or are fulfilling Cleveland State University’s mission in or outside the classroom.

Today, we celebrate Julianna Cutcher, who is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in human resource management.

CSU: Have you had any significant internships/co-ops/careers while at CSU?

JC: I have completed multiple significant Human Resources internships and am currently working in a co-op role while at CSU, each of which has strengthened my experience across core HR functions. I am currently a Human Resources Co-Op at PCC Airfoils, where I support full-cycle recruiting for hourly and non-exempt salaried roles, maintain employee records and ensure HR systems like ADP and Workday remain accurate. In this role, I also assist with benefits administration, onboarding, employee engagement initiatives and maintaining strong employee relations on the shop floor while partnering with external agencies and improving recruiting efficiency.

Prior to this, I worked as a Human Resources Intern at The Sherwin-Williams Company, where I led weekly new-hire orientations, managed HR communications through a high-volume inbox and supported large-scale administrative programs like employee parking for more than 1,300 employees. I also contributed to process improvements by reorganizing job description libraries and digitizing employee records while gaining exposure to tools like Power Automate, Power Apps and SharePoint. Additionally, I completed an HR internship at Crystal Clinic Orthopedic Center, where I supported onboarding, benefits processing, compliance tracking and employee record management using UKG and Excel. Across these roles, I have developed a strong foundation in recruiting, onboarding, HR systems, employee relations and process improvement.

CSU: How would you describe the connections you have made with the faculty and staff at CSU?

JC: I would describe the connections I have made with faculty and staff as strong and supportive. Professors have been approachable and invested in my growth, often offering guidance beyond the classroom on career paths, internships and professional development. These connections have been meaningful because they have provided both mentorship and real-world insight into the HR field.

CSU: How has Cleveland State inspired you for your future?

JC: Cleveland State has helped me clarify my career goals and build confidence in pursuing a future in Human Resources. Through coursework, internships and exposure to real-world HR challenges, I’ve developed a strong interest in areas like employee relations, talent development and organizational effectiveness. The university’s emphasis on practical experience and professional readiness has pushed me to continuously improve my skills and think strategically about my long-term career growth.

CSU: How do you think you have fulfilled the CSU’s mission?

JC: I believe I have fulfilled CSU’s mission by actively engaging in experiential learning, contributing to my community and striving for academic and professional excellence. Through multiple HR internships and my current co-op, I’ve applied what I’ve learned in the classroom to real organizational settings, creating value for the companies I’ve worked with. I’ve also taken initiative in improving processes, supporting employee engagement and collaborating with others, which reflects CSU’s commitment to preparing students to make meaningful contributions in their careers and communities.

CSU: Do you have a career lined up, and how has CSU been instrumental in that process?

JC: I have a career lined up with Parker-Hannifin, as I will be moving to Otsego, MI, after graduation. I will be in their Leadership Development Program with a focus on HR. The university has been instrumental by providing access to internships, networking opportunities and career development resources that have allowed me to build a strong professional foundation. My co-op and internship experiences have not only strengthened my skills but also expanded my network, giving me a clear pathway into a full-time HR role after graduation.

Congratulations, Julianna!
