SOD JG

CSU celebrates graduating students who have overcome obstacles, made significant achievements or are fulfilling Cleveland State University’s mission in or outside the classroom.

Today, we celebrate Jaylin Gillum ’25.

CSU: Have you had any significant internships/co-ops/careers while at CSU?

JG: While at CSU, I worked as a student employee within the Academic Support Hub, which allowed me not only to have a direct impact on the growth of my fellow students, but to also gain valuable experience in a professional environment and to further establish connections with peer colleagues and CSU faculty.

CSU: How would you describe the connections you have made with the faculty and staff at CSU?

JG: CSU staff helped me identify my goals and how to best approach them. Their guidance helped direct my future educational and professional endeavors as they challenged me to grow intellectually and as a person as a whole.

CSU: How has Cleveland State inspired you for your future?

JG: CSU has inspired my future by providing the knowledge and support I need to prepare for my future career. I owe this university my gratitude for helping reveal my own unique interests and strengths that I will apply to the rest of my life.

CSU: How do you think you have fulfilled the CSU’s mission?

JG: I believe I have fulfilled CSU's mission by acting as a leader for my peers and demonstrating that even the most "ordinary" members of our community have the potential to succeed and achieve their goals. I humbly believe that I served as an exemplary model for those around me through my hard work and leadership, representing what it means to be a Viking.

CSU: Do you have a career lined up, and how has CSU been instrumental in that process?

JG: While I do not have a specific career lined up right now, I am active in the job market and have interviews scheduled in the coming days. At the time of writing this, I am inquiring with recruiters for positions as a laboratory technician within either a microbiology or an R&D chemistry lab in the Northeast Ohio region and for a position as a Brain Health Instructor in an assisted living facility for dementia patients.

Congratulations, Jaylin!
