Cleveland State Police Captain Joins Elite Class of FBI National Academy Graduates
Cleveland State University Police Capt. Joseph Hunt is among 265 law enforcement officers from across the United States and around the world who recently graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
The prestigious 10-week program challenges experienced law enforcement professionals with advanced training in leadership, communication and fitness. Graduates return to their agencies equipped with new skills and knowledge to take on executive-level leadership roles.
“Attending the FBI National Academy was an incredible experience, and I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to participate,” said Hunt. “It was challenging and rewarding and gave me a chance to focus on leadership, communication, wellness, and professional growth.”
He said that one of the best parts was getting to know law enforcement leaders from across the country and around the world.
“Even though we come from different agencies and communities, many of the challenges we face are very similar,” said Hunt. “Being able to share ideas, learn from each other, and build friendships and professional connections was something I really valued.”
Hunt plans to bring the lessons and experiences from the National Academy back to CSU, sharing fresh perspectives on leadership, communication and officer wellness, along with new ideas and resources. He hopes to turn what he learned into meaningful improvements that will help the department continue to grow, strengthen its officers and better serve the CSU community.
“I came back with new ideas and a broader perspective on leadership and policing. It reinforced how important it is to build relationships and trust with our students, faculty and staff,” he said. “I hope to use what I learned to support our officers, strengthen our department, and continue providing the best service we can to the CSU community.”
One standout moment of the experience came at graduation, when Hunt found himself in the company of two high-profile speakers. FBI Director Kash Patel delivered the keynote address, while NBA Hall of Famer and basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal also took the stage to speak to the graduating class, adding an unexpected highlight to an already significant occasion.
“Having them both there made an already special day even more memorable,” said Hunt. “It was a great way to finish the experience and reflect on how fortunate I was to have this opportunity.”
He added:
“Being selected for the FBI National Academy was a tremendous honor, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity and for the support of CSU and our Police Department. I was proud to represent CSU alongside law enforcement leaders from across the country and around the world. It’s an experience I’ll always appreciate, and I’m looking forward to putting what I learned to good use here at CSU.”
