Transfer Student Services

Transfer

Whether you are coming from a two- or four-year school, Cleveland State University is excited to assist and welcome you as a member of our Viking family! At CSU, our number one priority is you. We are focused on your success and offer assistance at all levels of your journey, from the start of your academic career with us as a transfer student through graduation.

Minimum Requirements*

CSU considers you a transfer student if you have taken any college coursework since graduating from high school, regardless of whether or not you earned credit. Transfer applicants must

  • have a high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED)
  • have earned at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) at all previous colleges and universities combined in order to be admitted to Cleveland State University as a degree-seeking student.

Students transferring with fewer than 12 semester credits must meet freshman admission requirements and the transfer GPA requirement.

High school students who have only taken College Credit Plus (CCP) coursework are considered new freshmen and not transfer students.

*Each academic college has specific guidelines for direct entry. Students not meeting these requirements may be considered for pre-admission into an academic college or admitted to University Studies.

School of Music

Music students must complete an additional application and complete an audition. Students who have not completed a music theory course for college credit are also required to complete an oral and written placement exam. Contact the School of Music for additional information at 216-687-2033.

Students must be admitted to Cleveland State University as pre-business and then follow the College of Business admission process. Visit the Monte Ahuja College of Business website for more details.

GPA

Students applying to Washkewicz College of Engineering programs should have a 2.2 GPA and completion of Pre-Calculus II or Calculus I with a grade of C or better, or placement into CSU Pre-Calculus II or Calculus I.

Please contact the College’s advising office for more information on specific requirements.

You must be admitted to Cleveland State before you apply to the Honors Program. Requirements include a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, completion of 60 earned semester hours and most general education requirements by the end of the semester in which you are applying.
