INFORMATION SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

ADVISING: YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS

Academic advising is an important source of support and assistance for all CSU students. This session provides key information about academic advising, how it supports and promotes student success, and how to get the most out of the services provided. Learn how academic advising can help you get the most out of your college experience.

COLLEGE 101

Learning about a college education can be as confusing as learning a new language or visiting a foreign country.

This session will break down the basic structure of a University, help you understand the parts involved in earning a degree and explain in plain English some of the terminology you will encounter on any college campus.

HOW DO I PICK MY MAJOR?

Selecting an academic major is one of the most challenging aspects of the college experience. This session will examine common myths and misconceptions about majors, the relationship between majors and careers, and key factors to consider when choosing your major. Whether you’re currently undecided about your major, or think you may have already decided on your major, this session offers a wealth of useful information.

HONORS PROGRAM

This information session is for high-achieving students interested in a challenging college academic experience. Learn more about the Honors and University Scholars programs and admission requirements.

INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL AID

This session will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the financial aid application process. The cost of higher education and different types of financial aid will also be reviewed.

STUDENT HOUSING OPTIONS

As a CSU student, you may decide to commute from your family home, live in a CSU residence hall, lease from a

University-approved apartment complex or lease from an off-campus landlord.

It’s up to you. Learn more about all of your options and estimated expenses, including information about CSU residence halls - Euclid Commons (EC) and Fenn Tower (FT).

LIFE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Learn about college life outside the CSU classroom, on and off campus. This session features a video presentation that shows a day in the life of three CSU students and faculty as they take advantage of campus life and recreation opportunities, dining options, and the many ways to travel to and from campus. Learn how CSU’s campus experience helps connect and engage students and the community.

YOU @ CSU

Find out why more and more students are making the CSU decision. Meet with an admissions counselor and experience a fun presentation that outlines the five factors to consider when making your college decision. Participants will also get to hear from current students on a student panel and ask questions about the college search process and why these students chose to come to Cleveland State University.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH A MAJOR IN…

Is it true that your favorite subject in high school holds the key to your future career? Learn more about choosing a career and how the CSU Career Services Center can help you reach your goal of career fulfillment. This session will also cover career courses, cooperative education, resume writing, interviewing, networking and special events.

ON-CAMPUS STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

Each year CSU employs nearly 1,000 students on campus. Student employees have the opportunity to build essential career skills, make important connections to the University and earn money. Attend this session to learn how to participate in the CSU Student Employment Program.

ENGAGING A DIVERSE CAMPUS AND

COMMUNITY

The Division of University Engagement oversees three distinct yet interdependent outreach functions at Cleveland State University: civic engagement, workplace engagement, and inclusion and multicultural engagement. Learn what the University does to reinforce CSU’s unique contribution to Greater Cleveland – its civic well-being, economic vitality, and diverse culture – and how they are central to the University’s commitment to develop students through engaged learning.
