Today, we celebrate Kassidy Everhart ‘25.
CSU: Have you had any significant Internships/Co-ops/Careers while at CSU?
KE: During my time at Cleveland State University, I’ve had several meaningful internships and career-building opportunities that have shaped my passion for healthcare management. After switching my major to Healthcare Management in the spring of my sophomore year, I was eager to dive into the field and gain hands-on experience.
My first internship was at Arsmiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Fairlawn, OH, where I assisted in office coordination. One of my key projects was creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from the ground up, as none previously existed for the staff. I also updated and revamped the Employee Handbook, which had not been revised in several years. After integrating the new SOPs into the handbook, I presented the updated materials to the office staff and conducted training sessions based on assigned content from Dr. Sima Chegini, the dentist and office manager. This internship was incredibly valuable in helping me develop a deeper understanding of office operations and sparked my passion for leadership and management within healthcare.
My second internship was at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, OH, where I worked under the supervision of Hannah Haynie, manager of the NEOMED Free Clinic. The clinic provides free, high-quality, non-emergency healthcare to underserved populations in Northeast Ohio. My primary role was assisting with grant applications. This was my first experience in the nonprofit sector, and I learned a great deal about budgeting, clinic operations, and the grant approval process. I co-authored several grant proposals during my time there, and we were successfully awarded funding from the Akron Community Foundation, which supported the launch of Behavioral Health services within the clinic. We also received a grant from the Portage Foundation to cover additional operational costs. This internship gave me a deeper appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that helps keep essential healthcare services accessible.
In the fall of my senior year, I accepted a full-time position at the Cleveland Clinic as a Patient Guest Services Assistant (Red Coat) in Patient Support Services. In this role, I provide support, guidance, and comfort to patients, guests, and staff—often serving as the first point of contact upon arrival. This position has taught me not only about hospital operations but also about the critical role of empathy and compassion in healthcare. My goal is to grow within the Cleveland Clinic and contribute to its mission of caring for life, researching for health, and educating those who serve.
CSU: How would you describe the connections you have made with the faculty and staff at CSU?
KE: One of my favorite aspects of Cleveland State University has been the incredible support and connections I’ve made with faculty and staff. In particular, the Healthcare Management department has had a profound impact on my academic journey, especially Professor Dean Robertson and Dr. Michele Heath. Both have been motivating figures throughout my time at CSU. Their passion for healthcare is evident, not only in their teaching but also in the successful careers they’ve led outside the classroom. They’ve provided thoughtful, constructive feedback on coursework and have always been approachable and available to answer questions, guide discussions, and support both myself and my classmates.
Another individual who has made a lasting impact on me is Dr. Adrienne Pounds. As a student in the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Honors College, I had the privilege of working with her. Dr. Pounds offered not just academic support but also meaningful personal encouragement. She took the time to get to know me as an individual and consistently provided guidance that extended beyond the classroom. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside her and for the positive influence she’s had on my experience at CSU.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge Anne Nelson, Senior Assistant Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and Manager of Business Studies, General Business, and MBA Programs. Ms. Nelson played a pivotal role in my transition to the Healthcare Management degree. She consistently provided support and guidance, always taking the time to answer my questions and offering encouragement. I’m incredibly grateful to have had such a dedicated and compassionate figure in my academic journey—someone who believed in me every step of the way.
CSU: How has Cleveland State inspired you for your future?
KE: Cleveland State University has played a major role in shaping my vision for the future. Through hands-on learning opportunities, supportive faculty, and meaningful internships, I’ve gained the confidence and skills needed to pursue a fulfilling career in healthcare management. CSU has inspired me to think beyond the classroom—encouraging me to make a real impact in the healthcare field by focusing on both operational excellence and compassionate care.
The university’s commitment to community engagement and innovation has also shown me the importance of being adaptable and proactive in a constantly evolving industry. I leave CSU feeling empowered, not only by the education I’ve received but by the values instilled in me: service, leadership, and continuous growth. I’m excited to carry those values into the next chapter of my career.
CSU: How do you think you have fulfilled the CSU’s mission?
KE: I believe I have fulfilled CSU’s mission by taking full advantage of the opportunities the university provides and using them to grow academically, professionally, and personally. As a Healthcare Management student, I’ve engaged in internships and job opportunities across Northeast Ohio, applying what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-world experiences that serve the community—just as CSU encourages through its mission.
By working at the NEOMED Free Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic, I’ve contributed to improving healthcare access and patient support, which aligns with CSU’s goal of addressing the evolving needs of our community. I’ve also taken initiative in leadership roles, research projects, and service-learning opportunities, always striving to represent the university’s commitment to innovation, service, and lifelong learning.
In line with CSU’s Vision, I’ve worked to create opportunities not only for myself but also for others—mentoring classmates, supporting underserved populations, and pursuing experiences that promote social and economic mobility. I’m proud to have grown in an environment that values diversity, community, and impact, and I look forward to carrying those values with me into the future.
Congratulations, Kassidy!
