What have you gained from your graduate assistantship experience?
With my graduate assistantship I've gained the ability to prioritize and deal with concerns as they spring up, even with all of the other work that needed to get done. Secondly, I've learned to maintain a friendly, yet professional demeanor when working with students. It always pays off to be open and accessible. 
Favorite Quote: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Interesting Fact: I show movies in the Dively Room most Fridays of the semester! Also, my first name means "heart" in Arabic.
Greatest Accomplishment: Helping two people at the Cuyahoga County Jail attain their GEDs.

Jennifer Forcier, '13

What have you gained from your graduate assistantship experience?
I gained confidence in myself because my boss and his students trusted my input and knowledge. I gained the wonderful experience of working as part of a team to help students succeed.

Interesting Fact: I had dinner with the band Longwave at Cracker Barrel in Medina. They invited my friend and me after one of their shows when we saw them hanging outside in front of the Grog Shop and we stopped to tell them it was a great show.

What have you gained from your graduate assistantship experience?
What I gained from my time as a GA was a better understanding of academia and how a university works, and how much goes into preparing our students to succeed.  I enjoyed the experience immensely and can't wait to return in the fall and see what my new assignment is.

Interesting Fact: I am one of eleven children and had the opportunity to work with native Ohio wildlife for two years as a Wildlife Care Specialist for Lake Metroparks.  I worked with Bald Eagles, hawks, owls, beaver, and numerous songbirds, waterfowl, and mammals.  I loved it!
Greatest Accomplishment: My greatest accomplishment to date is being the first person in my family to earn a Bachelor’s degree, and the first person in my family to work toward a Master’s degree.

In my GA position, I have gained improved research and academic writing skills, and a more well-rounded understanding of my desired professional field.

What have you gained from your graduate assistantship experience?
The research assistantship at Center for Economic Development provides an opportunity to apply the research skills I gain through the coursework. I have also developed a second specialization in economic development) through this position in addition to my environmental planning concentration.
