The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), Digital C, and Cleveland State University are partnering to host the 2017 Cleveland Housing Hackathon. With support from national and local organizations, the Cleveland Housing Hackathon calls on critical thinkers, civic leaders, and tech enthusiasts to help us develop innovative solutions for Northeast Ohioans receiving housing vouchers, a subsidy to help pay their rent.
The CMHA Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) gives eligible residents from Cuyahoga County the opportunity to rent from a private landlord in a community of their choice. The problem: many voucher holders are facing multiple barriers that prevent them from finding the best housing opportunity that meet their needs.
A Hackathon is a social event that combines talent, expertise, data, and out-of-the-box thinking to solve local challenges. Think of it as a really innovative brainstorming session with friends from diverse sectors! The Cleveland Housing Hackathon will examine mobility as it pertains to resources and neighborhoods, taking note of wellness, transportation, education, and internet connectivity.
Although Hackathons are certainly geared towards recruiting tech-savvy individuals, ideas and critical thinking are the driving forces which fuel the success of Hackathons. In order to have a great Hackathon, we need everyone to contribute, regardless of skillset.
The Cleveland Housing Hackathon is certainly a new way to look at innovation and housing. Besides amazing prizes, we want to give participants the opportunity to connect to amazing leaders. Mentors will be present, who will support participants in whatever amazing solution they decide to create.
