JD+MAES

Course of Study

JD / MA Environmental Studies
The Dual Degree Program requires a total of four academic years. The Juris Doctor requirements are fulfilled by completion of 80 credit hoursof work in the College of Law, including all required courses, and the transfer of 10 credit hours from courses taken in the Master of Arts in Environmental Studies program. The Master of Arts in Environmental Studies requirements are fulfilled by completion of 44 credit hours of courses in the College of Urban Affairs, including all required courses, and the transfer of the equivalent of eight credit hours from courses taken in the College of Law.

In order to ensure that the degree requirements of both programs are fully maintained, while at the same time permitting the saving of a full academic year, students who pursue the Dual Degree Program will not be permitted to take courses outside either the College of Law or the Master of Arts in Environmental Studies program for credit toward either degree.

All requirements for both programs must be completed before either degree is awarded. If a student elects to receive one degree before completing the requirements of the other degree, forfeiture of some transfer credit will result and the student will no longer be in the Dual Degree Program.
