SDIFA mass spectrometry

Short Description

New technology termed as SDIFA is developed for the improvement of mass resolution of linear matrix-assisted laser-desorption-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry in oligonucleotide analysis.

Abstract

The mass resolution and accuracy of delayed extraction matrix assisted desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry is improved by spatially separating the electric field used for driving extraction/acceleration from the sample being analyzed.

Commercial Applications

  • Due to its superior performance, SDIFA will likely be the method of choice for genotyping of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs), the most common genetic variation in the human genome.

  • Excellent resolution in the mass range of 5200-7800 Daltons allows unambiguous identification of any heterozygote samples produced using the pinpoint assays.    

  • Superior resolution for oligonucleotides up to the 62mer makes it possible to directly genotype SNPs from PCR products.

Advantages

  • Unlike the currently used delayed extraction method, SDIFA allows separation of desorption-ionization from ion extraction and selectively sampling of part of the desorbed ions thereby reducing the initial velocity distribution of the sampled ions and improving resolution.
