Office of the President Monthly Update

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Friends:

As we close in on the end of spring semester, I just want to thank each and every one of you for making our first year together so enjoyable and productive. I continue to be amazed by the great things happening on our campus every day that truly make CSU unique, and I am extremely proud and grateful to represent you.

Let me share a special thanks for your tremendous response to our new Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Statement of Strategic Priorities. Earlier this month, we rolled out a collaborative blueprint for CSU’s future at a series of well-attended town hall meetings. If you haven’t already done so, I strongly encourage you to review the documents here and continue to share your thoughts and feedback as we move forward together.

Building a Bigger ‘Yes’

Say Yes Cleveland will cover the cost of college tuition for graduates from Cleveland Metropolitan School District high schools or partnering high schools, starting with the Class of 2019. CSU is proud to support this game-changing initiative with innovative offerings such as the new Parker Hannifin Living and Learning Community at CSU, which will provide qualified graduates from local high schools with two years of free on-campus housing.

New Leadership/Happenings in Athletics

An extensive national search led us to new Athletic Director Scott Garrett. He brings an impressive track record to CSU. Please join me in welcoming him to our Viking family.

We recently recognized outstanding achievements of nearly 200 CSU student-athletes who earned a 3.25 cumulative GPA at the 29th annual John Konstantinos Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon. Our student-athletes continue to stand out front when it comes to excelling in the classroom!

I look forward to seeing many of you at Commencement in a few weeks. Until then, enjoy the spring!

Sincerely,

Harlan M. Sands, J.D., M.B.A.
