Cleveland State University Office of the President

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Friends:

Welcome back to spring semester! It’s great to see everyone back on campus enjoying all that CSU has to offer, both inside and outside the classroom.

As we begin 2019, I am pleased to share that we have completed work on setting our strategic priorities and are looking forward to advancing them in partnership with all of you this spring and beyond. It has been incredibly inspiring to hear and discuss your dreams and aspirations for CSU. I look forward to spending more time across campus this semester discussing how we best engage to make our dreams a reality. With your help, I am confident we will set an upward trajectory that will take us to even greater heights in the months and years ahead!

One of the themes that will drive us forward is our leading role in providing accessible and affordable quality education to the citizens of Cleveland. On Friday, January 18, CSU was front and center as Cleveland became the fourth (and largest) city in the “Say Yes to Education” program. “Say Yes” guarantees that every Cleveland Metropolitan School District graduate gets a full ride to a four-year college degree. Cleveland has raised an amazing $88 million so far to fund scholarships to cover all tuition costs not covered by other sources — a phenomenal city-wide statement that Cleveland is “all in” on ensuring all CMSD graduates attend college. As CSU already enrolls the largest number of CMSD graduates each year who attend a four-year institution, this program will enable us to recruit and graduate even more students who will stay and work in Cleveland and fuel our economic growth. To further advance our commitment to the city and our citizens, we are working on several exciting initiatives that will enhance the college experience for students in this program — and others — who attend CSU. It is truly a new day for our city and our University. Stay tuned for more!

I also want to thank all of you who participated in our Commencement exercises in December and let you know how much of a privilege and honor it is to represent you as president. I very much enjoyed the day and am looking forward to an even greater celebration this spring when we do it again.

Best wishes for a successful semester. See you on campus!
