Graduate Assistantships (GA) help to provide academic and professional development opportunities to students. The Center for International Services and Programs (CISP) at Cleveland State University typically employs two Graduate Assistants per year: one position works primarily with International Students and Scholars (ISS) and the other focuses on Education Abroad (EA). GAs play a vital role in helping to further the mission of the CISP which is to serve and promote an urban university where students, faculty and staff gain international knowledge and experience. Students interested in applying for the GA in Education Abroad may submit their letter of interest and resume (via email only) at any time to the Manager of Education Abroad.
Eligibility: Future or current graduate students who achieved at 3.0 GPA or higher in their undergraduate program and/or a 3.3 GPA or higher if already enrolled in a Master's program. Previous study abroad or international experience is not necessary but is extremely helpful. An outgoing personality coupled with excellent presentation skills are a must. Knowledge of event planning and budgeting is a plus.
Role:The Education Abroad GA's primary role is to promote education abroad at Cleveland State and to collaborate with fellow student workers in the CISP on internationally-themed student programming. The daily tasks involve presentations to ASC 101 classes, general and introductory study abroad advising during "walk-in" sessions, maintenance of a professional email account, and international outreach at campus wide events and on social media sites. The scope of the position will include additional duties like pre-departure advising/student handbook revisions, Education Abroad Fair and Info session management, or more technically-oriented projects depending on the expertise and interests of the particular hire.
