My first Fulbright award was a Fulbright scholar award in 1967, for studies at Marquette University, years before I came to CSU in 1973. In 1988, I had a Fulbright Lecturing/Research Award to Korea for the fall semester. I taught at Yonsei University in Seoul and did Olympic journalism research centering around the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In the wake of this experience, I have founded the biennial Olympic Media Awards program, serving as its executive director for 1995-2000. I am currently an e-book in the DVD Hybrid format, "Olympic Journalism at Its Best," by using award-winning works from the 1996 and 1998 rounds of the awards competitions.

My third Fulbright award was to Botswana. I taught journalism in the newly created Media Studies Department at the University of Botswana (Botswana's only national university) during the fall semester 2002, with special emphasis on the use of Internet-based information sources on the production of media contents. Also did extensive field research on the status and problems with the independent press of the country, taking it as a case of transitional media in a newly emerging democracy and modern state.
