Washkewicz College of Engineering proudly showcases our Student of The Month, an aspiring mechanical engineer from North Olmstead, Tim Szeltner.
Tim’s education has been rewarding, offering many cherished memories. Tim has been engaged in an internship with Karpinski Engineering, along with employment in the Dean's Office, and as a student recruiting assistant for the Fenn Academy, the college's outreach and recruitment program.
Hard work and a desire to achieve greatness earned Tim a scholarship in the ChooseOhio First program. This granted him the opportunity to conduct some research as an undergraduate, and he attended the program's poster conference for four years.
We asked Tim “What do you like best about CSU and/or Washkewicz College?”
“CSU really attracts people from all walks of life, backgrounds, and past experiences. There are plenty of traditional students coming from high school for a four year degree, but so many others are 30 or older, coming back to advance their careers and improve their earning potential. I think it's extremely valuable to younger students to have older role models of professional behavior and hands on industry experience, rather than a uniform graduating class of somewhat naive 21 and 22 year old students. Knowing that the guy next to me has a wife, two kids, and just came from a 10 hour shift at work, then comes to school for a 6PM Linear Algebra class that I'm grumbling about really puts things in perspective, and redoubles my resolve to succeed.”
As a student, Tim benefitted from the new $60 Million Washkewicz Hall, a state of the art, 100,000 square foot addition, including teaching, research laboratories and simulation labs, computer modeling, and student collaboration spaces and smart classrooms.
