They are not administered through Cleveland State University. If you have questions or concerns about them, please contact the appropriate company/contact person, if listed. Please note that deadlines vary for each external scholarship.

External Scholarships for Engineers (BELOW) 

Adult Learner Program Scholarship

The Adult Learner Program Scholarship is for adult students age 19 and older who have taken off two semesters or more after high school. Students must be Pell-eligible and pursuing a first bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree, or a non-degree certificate or license in a vocational or technical program. The scholarship is renewable for a total of 10 semesters or until recipient completes first bachelor’s degree program. Awarded amounts vary based on eligibility requirements, but recipients generally receive $1,000 - $,2000 per academic year. DEADLINE: July 20th, 2024. 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be age 19 or older as of June 5th, 2024 and must have graduated from high school or have successfully earned their GED.
  • Must have interrupted their education for at least two semesters (fall/spring only) since high school graduation during college.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be pursuing a non-degree certificate or license in a vocational or technical program that is 3 months to 2 years in length, an associate's degree or first bachelor's degree in an eligible two or four-year program. Individuals who have already completed a bachelor's degree are not eligible.
  • Qualify or show eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant (EFC must be $6,656 or lower)
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time per term in a Pell-eligible degree-seeking program for the 2024/2025 academic year.

AGC Ohio Foundation Scholarships

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Ohio Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that promotes the commercial construction industry and supports future construction professionals and tradespeople by providing scholarships to students interested in pursuing careers in construction. The foundation has a total of 31 available scholarships and students are eligible to apply for 28 of them through a general application. DEADLINE: TBD, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:  

  • Must be a US Citizen 
  • Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA (out of 4.0)
  • Must be an undergraduate in at least the second year of a 2-year, 4-year, or 5-year degree program during the academic year

AIST Steel Foundation Scholarships

The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) scholarships are awarded on an annual basis to talented and dedicated students to encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel-related industries. Applicant must commit to a paid summer internship at a North American steel-related company and must be a citizen of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. DEADLINE: TBD, 2024. 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be majoring in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, safety or Industrial Hygiene programs
  • Must be freshman, sophomore, and junior applicants, or seniors planning to attend graduate school
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be full-time in a four-year undergraduate (minimum of 12 credits) or graduate program (minimum of 8 credits) at an accredited North American university. NOTE: An applicant working full-time does not qualify
  • Applicant must be a citizen of a NAFTA country (USA, Canada, Mexico)

American Chemical Society Scholarships

American Chemical Society offers renewable scholarships to undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups in the chemical sciences, majoring in chemistry-related disciplines and intending to pursue chemistry-related careers. Selected recipients are awarded up to $5,000 per academic year. (Number of awards and award amounts are determined by school year, demonstrated financial need, and available funding). DEADLINE: March TBD, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent U.S. residents NOTE: Please inquire via email if you have questions regarding asylum or DACA Status. 
  • Must be graduating high school seniors or college freshmen, sophomores or juniors
  • Students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical technology, or another chemistry-related science AND planning to pursue a career in a chemistry-related science as well
  • Must be a full-time student at a high school or an accredited college, university, or community college
  • Demonstrated high academic achievement in chemistry or science (GPA of 3.0 or above)

American-Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) helps students move forward in their educational journeys by providing a wide range of programs and scholarship opportunities. AISES scholarships help students acquire skills and training that will help them meet the unique STEM needs of our communities. AISES student members have easy access to scholarships for American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Indigenous peoples of Canada through the Online Scholarship Application Information System. DEADLINE: March 1, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Must Self-identify as an American Indian or Alaska Native enrolled in, affiliated with, or a descendant of a federally recognized tribe.NOTE: Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, or members of an Indigenous group of Canada are also welcome to apply;
  • Must be a full-time (12 credit hours or more) student at a two-year or four-year college or university, enrolled in a program leading to an academic degree in STEM
  • Must have a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be a member of AISES
  • Have not previously received a scholarship from AISES

American Meteorological Society

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) administers an array of graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships with the support of its members, corporations, and government agencies nationwide. The fellowships and scholarships range from $1,000 to $25,000 and help further the education of outstanding graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a career in the atmospheric and related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. DEADLINE: March 1, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0-point scale.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status.  No age restriction exists.

American Postal Workers Union (APWU)

American Postal Workers Union scholarship winners will receive up to $3,000 for specialized training in such fields as culinary arts, medical or dental assistant, electrician, real estate, auto mechanic, certified IT/computer education, cosmetology, or massage therapy, etc. Eligible programs can be of a nine-month to three-year duration. DEADLINE: March 31, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Must be High-School seniors
  • Applicants must be a child, grandchild, stepchild, or legally adopted child of a current, retired, or deceased APWU member

American Public Works Association

American Public Works Association is offering financial assistance to Undergraduate, Graduate, and APWA Family Member students in Civil Engineering. Applications for the Undergraduate and Graduate scholarships are accepted from January 1 to March 1. APA awards scholarship(s) of $1,500 to Civil Engineering majors. DEADLINE: May 1, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Minimum of 3.25 GPA
  • Completion of no less than 9 credits in the program (date of application)
  • Permanent Resident in the State of Ohio

Canton Joint Engineering Council

The Canton Joint Engineering Council (CJEC) is offering annual $1,000 scholarships to engineering students who are legal residents is in Stark or adjacent counties in Ohio. We invite you to apply for this local scholarship. DEADLINE: February TBD, 2024.

Eligibility criteria:

  • United States citizen
  • Be a legal Resident of Stark, Portage, Summit, Wayne, Holmes, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Columbiana, or Mahoning County, Ohio
  • Have completed your college sophomore year
  • Be accepted into the College of Engineering of any four (4) year university or College which is ABET-accredited or in the process of obtaining ABET accreditation 
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75

Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers

The Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers (CRSPE) is offering its annual Grants-in-Aid scholarships to engineering students whose legal residence is in Ashland, Crawford, Richland, Stark, or Wayne County.

Grants-in-Aid are offered to students enrolled in accredited colleges of engineering in the State of Ohio expecting to receive bachelor’s degrees in engineering during the period of May 2025 to May 2026 inclusive (next year’s college juniors and seniors). The criteria used to make the selections include accumulated grades, years of study completed, and need, as well as participation in community activities.

Applications are due by April 1, 2024, to the Stark Community Foundation, who will be coordinating the program with CRSPE. Students can access the application by clicking on the following link: CLICK HERE. DEADLINE: April 1st, 2024

Dan Lok Giving Scholarship

Dan Lok is an entrepreneur, investor, best-selling author, and philanthropist. Knowing that seeking higher education is a major decision that can often be costly, Lok founded the Dan Lok Giving Scholarship. The scholarship is designed to offer financial assistance to those individuals wanting to continue the growth of their education, but who may not have the financial means to do so. DEADLINE: June 30, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Canada or the United States.
  • Current high school senior that has been accepted into a college or university in Canada or the United States.

The US $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one selected winner to assist with their educational expenses. Applicants are requested to fill out the form and write a 500-word essay.

Fluid Power Scholarship

NFPA offers multiple $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors, and students enrolled at community colleges, technical colleges, and universities. The Fluid Power Scholarship aims to help students pursue their interests in fluid power. The money awarded is used to study at any accredited technical college or university in the United States.

The applicant does not have to be enrolled in a dedicated fluid power degree program but must be enrolled in a relevant program where fluid power is taught. College Seniors/Graduating Applicants: Students graduating in May or June of the 2023-24 academic year are NOT eligible for a scholarship. Students enrolled in a Master's or PhD degree program are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

The NFPA Fluid Power Scholarship is currently open and DEADLINE: April 1st, 2024 at 11:59PM Central Time.

Force & Motion Foundation

The Force and Motion Foundation offers up to seven $1000 travel scholarships each quarter to assist students with costs for travel to scientific conferences. The travel awards are open to applicants worldwide. To apply, you will need either a poster for a poster session or an abstract for a podium presentation. DEADLINE: Depends on Poster session dates.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Currently enrolled student at a College or University 
  • Interested in Poster sessions or Podium presentations

Ford Fund Program

Ford Fund Program is a new program for two- and four-year college students pursuing STEM-related career areas! The rapidly evolving landscape of Electric Vehicles and Advanced Manufacturing Industries has reflected that the need for qualified professionals in STEM fields is greater than ever. The scholarship goes beyond tuition and covers various indirect costs vital for program completion. This empowers students with essential Future of Work skills and ensures their sustainable success beyond graduation. This includes technology, professional skills building, and much more! DEADLINE: January 12th, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students from under-resourced communities who demonstrate economic need. Hispanic/Latino, African American/Black, and First-Generation college students highly encouraged to apply. Majors including but not limited to various engineering disciplines, data/IT, cyber-security, automotive technician training, skilled trades, robotics, and math/science related to IT and sustainability. Targeted Areas include:

Two-year students can qualify for up to $3,000 and four-year students can qualify for up to $5,000, with funds disbursed directly to students. The application deadline is January 12, 2024. Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Scholarship Program

The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Scholarship Program's mission is to provide students from historically underrepresented groups with opportunities to pursue their academic and professional goals while also working to create a more diverse and inclusive design industry. Five scholarships are awarded annually that each include $6,000 in tuition support and a paid summer internship at any one of SmithGroup’s office locations in the United States where the student’s discipline is available. APPLICATION OPENS: Thursday, November 30th, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicants must be current undergraduate (at least a junior level standing) or graduate students in an accredited architecture, interior design, planning, landscape architecture or engineering program in the United States. 
  • Candidates should have a current GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Candidates who are Black/African American, Hispanic, Alaskan Native or American Indian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

KF&B Law Academic Scholarship

KF&B Law Academic Scholarship has been created with the aim to assist students as they continue in their educational journey. The scholarship is meant to help students lessen their financial burden by awarding one applicant with a scholarship of $1,000 towards their educational expenses. DEADLINE: May 1, 2024.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a US resident
  • Must be currently enrolled student in a U.S. College or University OR a 2022 graduating high school senior
  • NOTE: It is not a requirement to be a law student

Kinect Solar Scholarship

Kinect Scholar Image

The Kinect Solar Scholarship program from Kinect Solar is extremely pleased to announce the $2,500 scholarship essay contest for college and University students. To enter the competition, you must submit a 500-word essay or a video that is no longer than three minutes long on the topic, “If you could share just one simple idea with your friends, family, and others around you that would help in living more sustainably and more in harmony with the planet if applied consistently, what would that be?”. DEADLINE: Fall Semester: 11:59 p.m. CT on Friday, June TBD, 2024 ; Spring Semester:11:59 p.m. CT on Friday, December 1, 2023

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be studying in an approved 2- or 4-year university or college.

Just Wright Dental Reason to Smile Scholarship

Just Wright Dental has created a bi-annual scholarship of $1,000 to students who are giving back to their community, spreading happiness, and making others smile. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens and either be graduating high school students or currently enrolled in an accredited American trade school, college, or university. DEADLINE: December 15, 2023, for the spring semester award, and November 5, 2023, for the fall semester award.

Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship

The Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship will support the next generation of multi-faceted computer scientists, with a special focus on coders, by providing financial assistance for their degree. The goal is to uplift a diverse group of students who want to combine computer science with their other passions to pave a unique path towards enriching our world and its technology.

LGBTQIA+, Women, and/or BIPOC students who are majoring in computer science and are also pursuing other interests may apply. To apply, write about your computer science goals, your non-computer science goals, and how you might combine these goals in the future.

Eligibility Criteria: 

Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program

These manufacturing industry scholarships are targeted at individuals whose permanent residence or college is near a Nordson facility, and are pursuing majors in manufacturing, engineering-related STEM disciplines, or business leading to a career in industry and corporate America. Scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 will be awarded to students planning to enroll or already enrolled in an accredited public or private not-for-profit postsecondary institution. DEADLINE: May 17, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • High school seniors or college students enrolling in an accredited not-for-profit secondary institution, including a four-year college, community college, or trade school
  • Pursuing a major in manufacturing, engineering-related STEM disciplines, or business leading to a career in industry and corporate America
  • Live near a Nordson facility or attend a school near a Nordson facility
  • Maintain good academic standing
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation (OOGEE)

The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation is proud to provide scholarships to students pursuing careers in the natural gas and oil industry. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of $1000 annually, which may be renewed for up to 4 years. DEADLINE: March 1, 2024. To be eligible for the OOGEE scholarship you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be an Ohio resident or student attending an accredited Ohio college or university
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher 

Robotics Challenge Scholarship

This scholarship awards up to $30,000 (up to $7,500 per year for up to four years) to a graduating high school senior who participates in a FIRST® Robotics, National Robotics League, or VEX Robotics competition and uses pneumatics in their robot. The money awarded is used to study engineering at any accredited technical college or university in the United States. DEADLINE: May 5th, 2024 11:59pm Central Time.

Rocco Basile Giving

Rocco Basile is a professional photographer whose work is featured in fine art galleries & international publications. Rocco Basile founded the Rocco Basile Foundation to encourage students to become personally invested in social issues and to promote social consciousness through documentary photography. Rocco Basile Scholarship is worth $1000 annually. DEADLINE: March 1, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Be a high school student graduating this calendar year
  • Accepted & currently attending college, university, or trade school
  • NOTE: All majors and areas of study are encouraged to apply

Webucator Scholarships 

Webucator’s Scholarships established a scholarship program that aims to provide assistance to students who are taking up Computer Science. The award will be given to qualified students who have displayed leadership potential in the field of Computer Science. Leadership can be exhibited in a variety of ways such as education, innovation, and communication. Webucator awards $1,000 worth of scholarships for Computer Science major students. DEADLINE: March 31, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be currently enrolled full-time as an undergraduate or taking up a master’s degree program in an accredited university in the US
  • Should have finished at least one computer science class with good academic standing (least 3.0 out of 4.0 or the equivalent
  • Student must have definite plans of taking up computer science in the coming school year
  • Must agree on posting his name and his university on Webucator’s official website.

Zonta Club of Cleveland Foundation

The Zonta Club of Cleveland offers scholarships ranging from $800.00 to $1,000.00 to support the educational aspirations of women. These scholarships should encourage women who have the potential to become future leaders and support the mission of Zonta. These scholarships should make a significant difference in the awardees’ educational experience by supporting them through upper college years and, if appropriate, beyond in postgraduate work. DEADLINE: November TBD, 2024.

Eligibility criteria:

  • A resident of Cuyahoga County
  • Attend an institution of higher learning within the State of Ohio
  • Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Provide an official College transcript
  • Have successfully completed at least one year of post-secondary studies
  • Applicants should provide a written recommendation from a Faculty member or another appropriate University Official
