CHE-BME Students Winners at the Engineering Research Day Poster Competition

The Washkewicz College of Engineering held its 3nd Annual Research Day on October 30, 2015.  The keynote speaker, Dr. Rickey Shyne, Director of Research and Engineering at NASA-Glenn Research Center, gave an excellent presentation related to ongoing and future research at NASA-Glenn Research Center (GRC).
An important part of the Research Day was the poster display that this year had a record number of posters.  I am now pleased to announce the winners of the poster competition:
Kurt standing by his 1st Prize Poster
1st place
Activated Microglia Differentially Regulates Neural Stem Cell Phenotype and Neural Outgrowth Within Co-cultures.
Student Author: Kurt Farell, who will receive the prize of $500 
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Chandra Kothapalli
2nd place
A Real-time Virtual Muscle System for Prosthesis Control
Student Author: Sandra Hnat, who will receive the prize of $300
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Ton van den Bogert

In addition, the Awards Committee identified two Honorable Mentions:
Ultrasensitive, rapid detection of infectious bacteria. Authors: Luo, Mathew and Yau
The Response of Anisotropic Colloids to a Polarized Electrode. Authors: Obasanjo, Nuthalapati and Wirth
