Civil and Environmental Engineering

Senior Design Projects

Senior civil engineering students are required to complete a two semester capstone design project sequence (CVE 426, CVE 427). Typical projects include building designs, pedestrian bridges, flood control and mitigation, culvert replacement, road widening, etc. During the first semester, the student teams work with their project clients to determine the project scope and define the project deliverables. In addition, each team conducts a detailed examination of the project site (including surveying and soil sampling), determines the applicable codes and standards, develops some possible solutions, and chooses the most promising one to design. At the end of the first semester, the teams present the progress they have made. During the second semester, the teams prepare a detailed, preliminary design and cost estimate and present their final designs.

The final posters of the senior design groups are available for 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017.
