Xellia Partners with Cleveland State University for a third year on a Good Design Practices Lunch & Learn Series

In an effort to develop a future talent base for Pharmaceutical and related industries Xellia, partnered with Cleveland State University, has hosted an Instructional Series during both the Fall 2018 and Fall 2019 semesters related to Good Design Practices for cGMP Pharmaceutical Facilities.  Joe Yurko, Associate Project Lead, is a Cleveland State University graduate and sits on the Industrial Advisory Committee in the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department.  Joe worked closely with the student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) at the university to coordinate this event for the third year in a row.  Joe, John Mylar a chemical engineering graduate from Oklahoma State University along with Daniel Heinrich,  John Juchnowski, Kruttika Patel, Noura Awad, and Amani Dakdouk, who were recent chemical engineering graduates from CSU, are presenting the series of lectures.

The lecture series covers various important topics for cGMP facilities including an overview of the pharmaceutical industry and cGMPs; legacy facility master planning; architectural designs; utility systems; high purity water systems; commissioning, qualification, and validations; process engineering; automation; sterile manufacturing; biotechnology facilties; codes and standards, containment technology; occupational health and safety; sustainability; QA/QC laboratories; and packaging and warehousing.  Both midterm and final exams are given in a group participation environment on “Three Letter Acronyms.”   Students must complete 8 out of the 12 hour sessions to receive the Xellia Certificate of completion. For the Fall 2019 session, thirty students are taking advantage of the Xellia presentations.  An awards ceremony will be held on December 5th, 2019 at Cleveland State.
